In January 2011, I was chosen to be a featured brewer for The Creative House of Lancaster's first Local Homebrew Dinner. And by chosen, I mean that I quickly volunteered and was incredibly excited that they caved in and said, "yes!"
The day will start with a homebrew competition. 18 Local homebrewers will be competing against each other in 6 different categories.
The evening event will commence at 6:30pm with a small homebrew presentation with the official food/beer pairing starting at 7:00pm.
Six finger food courses will be provided by the fantastic Food for Thought Catering Company. All food has been carefully selected and paired with the beers from the homebrew competition.
Proceeds go to fund the local Buy Fresh, Buy Local chapter.
Each attendee will be given a tasting glass and a rinse station will be provided for cleaning between courses.
Live Entertainment, raffle and documentary short are just a few of the exciting activities planned for the evening. This is a
21 and over event. Tickets are $35 and can be purchased here!
My Story
First step was to figure out what I was going to brew. At the time I was asked, courses had not yet been set. They wanted beers in six different categories: IPA, Saison, Stout, Belgian Pale/Strong Ale, ESB/Amber Ale, and Fruit Beer. I figured I was strongest in the Stout, Fruit, and ESB categories, and eventually settled on my Orange Honey Hefeweizen recipe. Brew Day
For March 26 in Central PA, it was a freezing cold Sunday morning for brewing! Everything came off without a hitch though. Except that I almost forgot to pitch the yeast. Had that happened, this video would not have been possible:
